Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 and the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
