Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
