Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the break of Day 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Not at all but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
