Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
