Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
