Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter among My servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
