Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the passing night, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
