Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
