Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
