Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
