Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
