The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
