The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
