The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
