The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
