The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
