The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
