The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
