The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
