The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But save him who fears 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
