The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And rejects goodness, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
