The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
