The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
