The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
