The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
