The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
