The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
