Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions lined up 15 and outspread carpets. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
God the Almighty always says the truth.
