The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or orders piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
