The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
