The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
