The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
