The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
