The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
