The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
