Let the dead earth be a Sign for them. We gave it life and produced from it grain whereof they eat. 33 And We make therein gardens of palms and grapevines and We make springs to flow forth in it, 34 so that they may eat of the fruit thereof, though it was not their hands that made it. Will they not, then, be grateful? 35 Exalted is He who created all pairs - from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know. 36 And a sign for them is the night; We strip the day out of it, thereupon they are in darkness. 37 And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing. 38 We have ordained phases for the moon until finally it becomes like an old date-stalk. 39 It is not for the sun to catch up with the moon, nor does the night surpass the day; and each one of them floats in its orbit. 40 And a sign for them is that We lodged them in a laden ship, while they were in their forefathers backs. 41 And We made similar vessels for them to ride. 42 Had We wanted, We could have drowned them and nothing would have been able to help or rescue them 43 unless it be by an act of mercy from Us and a grant of life for a [further span of] time. 44 And when it is said to them: Guard against what is before you and what is behind you, that mercy may be had on you. 45 And never came an Ayah from among the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord to them, but they did turn away from it. 46 And when it is said to them: Spend out of what Allah has given you, those who disbelieve say to those who believe: Shall we feed him whom, if Allah please, He could feed? You are in naught but clear error. 47 And they say: when will this promise be fulfilled if ye say sooth? 48 They will not (have to) wait for aught but a single Blast: it will seize them while they are yet disputing among themselves! 49 and they will not even be able to make a testament, nor to return to their households. 50
