The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 still they would say: 'Our eyes were dazzled; truly, we must have been a bewitched people' 15
