۞ And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.). 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
