Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 I call to witness the lucent Book, 2 We have made it an Arabic Koran in order that you understand. 3 and behold, it is in the Essence of the Book, with Us; sublime indeed, wise. 4 Shall We then take away from you the admonition because ye are a people extravagant? 5 How many a prophet did We send among the men of old! 6 And never came there a prophet to them but they mocked him. 7 We therefore destroyed the people who were more forceful than these, and the example of the earlier ones has already gone by. 8 Yet, if you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will answer: 'The Almighty, the Knower created them' 9 (It is) He who made the earth to be a cradle for you and made in it ways for you, in order that you are guided. 10 And Who sent down water from the sky with a proper measure, so We revived a dead city with it; this is how you will be taken out. 11 And He it is who has created all opposites. And He [it is who] has provided for you all those ships and animals whereon you ride, 12 That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them and say. "Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it. 13 “And indeed we have to return to our Lord.” 14 Yet they make some of His servants partners in His divinity. Man is clearly ungrateful! 15
