The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
