The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
