In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
