The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 by the House inhabited 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
