The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
