The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your garments purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
