The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
