Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter among My servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
