Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 trustworthy divine inspiration has alighted with it from on high 193 to your heart that you might become one of those who warn (others on behalf of Allah), 194 (a revelation) in clear Arabic language, 195 Truly it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 And has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel? 197 And if We had revealed it unto one of any other nation than the Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus it passes through the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe it until they behold the painful punishment. 201 It shall come unto them on a sudden, and they shall not perceive. 202 Then they will say: "Shall we be respited?" 203 Do they want to hasten Our torment? 204 What thinkest thou? If We give them enjoyment of days for many years, 205 And then the promise that is given to them, does come upon them- 206 They would not be availed by the enjoyment with which they were provided. 207 Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it, 208 for a reminder; and never did We wrong. 209 The satans have not revealed the Quran; 210 It behoveth them not, nor they can. 211 They have been precluded from hearing it. 212 So call not on any other god with Allah, or thou wilt be among those under the Penalty. 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 And be kind to him who follows you of the believers. 215 but if they disobey thee, say: "I am free of responsibility for aught that you may do!" 216 And put thy trust in the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 who sees you when you stand up [for prayer], 218 And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves, 219 He is all-hearing and all-knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They come down to every mendacious sinner, 222 They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars. 223 And the poets -- the perverse follow them; 224 Do you not see how they wander aimlessly in every valley, 225 and they say what they do not do? 226 Save those that believe, and do righteous deeds, and remember God oft, and help themselves after being wronged; and those who do wrong shall surely know by what overturning they will be overturned. 227
