The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
