Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
